How to print/copy using SON Student Printers

  1. Open the application you will be printing from: This example uses Microsoft Word 

  2. Select File

  3. Select Print

  4. Select the Printer: SON-StudentPrint  (might also be called SON Student Printer)

  5. Select Print

  6. In the popup window, provide your JHED ID example: JDoe13 (without the @jh.edu)

  7. Select Print

  8. You can retrieve your print job at any printer printer in the building with a badge reader. See the Student Printing Services page for locations of devices designated for student use.
    Note: The print job will be held for 2 hours before being deleted from the print queue.

  9. Tap or Swipe you badge depending on the type of reader the device has. See this page for details or if you do not have your badge.All new devices will have “tap” functionality. A few might still use magnetic stripe readers. At the printer, tap or swipe your JHMI badge and proceed to step 10. Note, if you do not have your Student ID with you, there is an option on each device to enter your username and password. If you do this, enter your Username/JHED ID without the @jh.edu

  10. If your badge is not recognized and doesn’t login to the device, please contact the SON Help Desk. Sometimes, badge numbers do not come across when we import students into the print management system.

  11. Select the Cost Center to charge. Choose the 1650030012 - SON Free Student Printing option to deduct the cost from your FREE printing quota

  12. Tap “Print All” or the “Review Documents” button if you want to select which documents to print

 

* Note, if you do not have enough funds remaining in your Free printing quota, you will be given an insufficient funds message when you try to release the print job.  If you receive this message, you will need to go back and select the "SON ChargeMyStudentAccount" option. This will charge the your student account to be billed later. There is no ability at this time to add more funds to your free printing quota.

Checking how much of your Free Printing Quota remains - Unfortunately, the large copier/printers do not have the ability to display your Free Printing balance remaining.  There is a terminal in the ITS office that will display your remaining balance when you swipe your badge.
