Departments and sponsored projects will are no longer be charged for printing/copying on managed devices. Some people may have noticed that these charges had not been hitting your budgets since we returned from Covid. We have decided to continue with this approach and absorb these costs into the IT budget. Please be aware that printing and copying will still be monitored and this policy may be reconsidered if we see a significant increase in printing levels. New devices will are all be color capable, but default to black and white as well as double-sided printing. New devices will be are significantly faster than most current previous devices (60-65 pages/min). We will be adding have added a printer/copier near the elevators on the 4th floor. Device replacements will be staggered over the next 3-5 months due to our space limitations and HP’s ability to deliver them as scheduled. We will coordinate with departments and functional areas as replacements arrive. Additional updates and instructions will be posted here as the project progresses/if needed.

The old printers appear on your computers as "SON-MP###" and the new printers will appear as "MP### on SON-Print." Once a new printer appears on your computer, the old one might remain for a period of time. Please discontinue using the old printer as soon as the new one appears. SecurePrint is currently not now available on the new all devices. We are waiting for the JH Enterprise to complete necessary upgrades to the Pharos system. If you must perform a SecurePrint, you can still do so and retrieve it an older device that hasn't been replaced yet. For the same reason, swiping to authenticate on new devices for copying will not be configured initially. You can copy without logging/swiping in for now. See the Help Desk if you need assistance with this. Printing on Ledger size paper (11x17) will is only be available on 3 devices once they have all been replaced. They will be . Those devices are MP002 (S420A), MP007 (S320), MP008 (N530P) There appears to be a problem when using Google Chrome’s print dialogue that causes the printer to output “garbage” pages with random characters. We have also observed a problem where the page you are trying to print is scaled down only printing on about a quarter of an 8.5”x11” sheet of paper. Oddly, the solution to each of these issues is the exact opposite of the other. If the “garbage” issue occurs, set the value detailed below to 300dpi. If the small scaled down page issue occurs, set the value to 600dpi. To adjust this setting, expand the “More settings” option in Chrome’s print dialogue. Then change the Quality setting accordingly.

title | New devices will use RFID (tapping) in stead of swiping used on old devices |

The new devices will use utilize the “tap” (RFID) capability of our JHMI badges rather than the magnetic stripe used to access the old devices. Logging into the devices with your badge is required for making copies and to release jobs sent using the Secure Print option. Many older JHMI badges have the RFID symbol on the back of the card, but it doesn’t actually work. If this is the case for you, then you will need to go across the street to the Badge Office at the hospital and get a new badge. Just tell them that the RFID feature doesn’t work and they will issue a replacement. The Badge Office is in Room 108. From the Wolfe St entrance make a right after you enter. Very Important – If you obtain a new badge, you will also have a new badge number and you will need to notify inform both Campus Ops and IT what of the new number. You building and copier access will not work until the number is updated in those systems. You can use this link to quickly create and send an email to update us. Just add your JHED ID and new badge#. Q: How do I know whether or not RFID works on my badge? A: There are currently two new devices with RFID readers that you can use to test your badge. One is outside Carpenter B (S101) by the loading dock and the other is in the Student Affairs Office (S320). Simply place you badge on the reader and if it beeps, you are all setat any copier. It should beep and log you in to the device. If it does nothing, you will need a new badge. Q: What if I need to make a copy on one of the new devices and have not yet had a chance to update my badge? A: The devices have the ability for you to login with your JHED ID and password.
